Family Literacy

What is Family Literacy?

Family literacy is all the reading and writing activities you are doing at home with your children.  It can be reading together, finding letters you know in signs, practicing writing names together, making up and writing stories together, and so much more!

What is the Family Literacy Project?

The Family Literacy Project is the partnership between parents and teachers to align the literacies practices at home with the literacy practices at school.  Jamestown Elementary School would like to host parents for four sessions where we will talk about the literacy succeses happening at home and at school.  We'd love to share some literacy strategies with families that are easy to practice at home and can easily be added to your current reading practices.

How do I do it?

Well, you are probably already doing some of it at home without realizing it!  But we invite you to join us on November X, X, X, and X for some time to get together and share strategies you can easily do with your children.  We will talk about the great things you are doing already, and try to add to your strategy list.  Our goal is to partner with you for the benefit of the children.  We'd love to see you there!

What do I need to do to attend?

We'd love to know you are coming, so please either fill out the RSVP slip and return it to your child's teacher, call, or send a note to your child's teacher so we can be prepared for the proper amount of parents.
